Karen Bone

Stage Management

Karen has always enjoyed the thrill of a live performance and is  usually found behind the scenes, sourcing and making costumes and props.
Having stage managed many shows, including the award winning
Close Encounters, the theatre darkness during lockdown was proving very challenging. When approached by Upstage to join them in their latest “live” project she was delighted and didn't hesitate in accepting.

Glyn Jones

Editing

As a diversion from plodding the beat, Glyn trod the boards at Chipstead’s Courtyard Theatre where he stayed for 10 years. Glyn has also been involved in productions at Dorking Green Room Theatre and Epsom Studios where he performed in Bouncers. He contributed sound for Chipstead’s Annie and notably Dinner where he was particularly proud of his never ending chime.

During Lockdown he played Fairy King in the Zoom, Plays for Lockdown and has enjoyed sourcing the music and sound effects for Upstage Onstage. He is also an occasional film and TV extra, and will appear in a variety of film and television productions in 2022.

Glyn is a London Blue Badge Guide.

Amanda Dowdney

Backstage

Amanda's interest in all things theatrical began at a very young age when she took leading roles in productions at primary school!  In her teens, her interest led to backstage at The Questors Theatre in Ealing. Later, as an ex-pat in the UAE, she took part in a couple of amateur dramatic productions including Absurd Person Singular by Alan Ayckbourn and a Christmas panto.

Since then work has kept her on the other side of the curtain. Now retired, she is able to resume her interest in back (and front) stage and is excited to be working with Upstage.

Ben Mullon

Sound Design and Music Supervision

Ben is an experimental musician, producer, and educator. Born in Aotearoa (New Zealand), he moved to the UK as a child and draws inspiration from the sounds of both places, fusing electronic and acoustic elements in a symbiotic way.

As a writer and performer, he contributed to the Grammy-winning album Calling All Dawns by renowned composer Christopher Tin. His Hui-a project explored the sounds of Māori instruments and vocal themes, and he is now revisiting themes of ancestral influence in his new work

.

Ben is Head of Learning Pathways at Brent Music Academy, a music 'accelerator' programme for young people in partnership with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

He is excited to be collaborating on the sound design and music supervision for Upstage’s radio plays

Darren Partridge

Studio Producer

Darren has created an incredibly versatile sound studio from scratch and brings his considerable sound engineering expertise to Upstage.

This sanctuary is a place where the company can build on our current reputation for audio entertainment, creating recordings of locally written plays as local actors bring them to life.

Erin Loughrey

Backstage

Erin attended Raise the Curtain Stage School and Stagecoach and is now studying Performing Art A Level locally.

She made her stage debut at just 5 in Fiddler on the Roof followed by yearly pantos. She was recently Assistant Stage Manager for a production of Blithe Spirit.

Charlie Loughrey

LX/Sound Technician

Charlie has been helping backstage since he was a child. He has been operating lighting and sound at Esher Theatre since it opened, most recently on Dick Whittington.

We are delighted to have him behind the controls once again for A Coy Mistress.

Connor Protheroe

LX/Sound Technician

Connor Protheroe has been involved in the performing arts since the age of eight, when he started playing trumpet. Since studying music technology at A Level he has branched out into all things AV.

Now about to enter his final year of university, he has operated sound and lights for many productions (Grease, The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone, High School Musical etc) as well as being selected to be part of a team recording the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Nigel Greenaway

Technical Manager

Nigel Greenaway has been lighting theatre shows for longer than he can remember and has been the technical manager of the Riverhouse Barn for what seems like a bit longer.

This summer will be his second 2-play extravaganza for Upstage.
